See like a baby
Choose a picture and an age. The right-hand view blurs fine detail, fades faint contrast and mutes colour by the amounts measured in babies of that age.

How the view is made, and what it leaves out
Three changes are applied, each set by age. Blur removes detail finer than the baby's sharpness limit, worked out from how big the scene is and how far away it is. Contrast is reduced so faint edges fade. Colour is faded toward grey. The numbers come from published infant studies, and the same tables drive the research models (code).
Babies also move their eyes differently, focus less well up close in the first weeks, and their brains fill in a great deal. The picture shows the limits of the eye, not the baby's experience. The sample pictures are simple drawings made by this page.
A simulation built from published averages for groups of babies, not a medical test. If you are worried about a baby's seeing, hearing or development, talk to a paediatrician or health visitor.
