Hear

Hear like a baby

Babies hear from birth, but quiet and high sounds are harder to catch and it is harder to tell where a sound comes from. Play a sound both ways. Headphones help.

Use a sound file

Low pitches on the left, high on the right. Keep the volume moderate. Recordings stay in this tab.

How close to real hearing is this?

Less close than the picture view. Hearing research measures the quietest sound heard and how finely pitches and directions are told apart; it cannot record what sound is like for a baby. The settings follow coarse tables that match infant threshold data at 3 and 6 months and are milder than the data at 1 month and from 12 months (code).

A simulation built from published averages for groups of babies, not a medical test. If you are worried about a baby's seeing, hearing or development, talk to a paediatrician or health visitor.
